Sister Cecile made the group of village women her target, walked great
distances to meet them on time. The local villagers accept and
respect her as a member of thekir families due to the recognition she has
been able to establish in their hearts with her affectionate dealing with
each and everyone. A hard working and enthusiastic, Sister Cecile,
always in pleasant disposition, is committed to render services to the
people. Since she is so close to the people, they seek her advice
concerning family problems as well. This is the way Saint Angela's
spirit is alive in our midst.
At Kundli, Sahebganj, her contribution towards the treatment of
patients suffering from Kalazar has been great. Once at a seminar of
VHAB while speaking about the miseries of the people, she became so
emotional that the Chief Director of the Health Department, who was
present there decided at once to visit her area. He took along with
him the highest authority of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases
and Dr. C.P. Thakur. People of Kundli have benefited enough from her
efforts.
As a successful social worker she has empowered the women in
recognizing their identity. We hope that all of us social workers
will receive inspiration from such a personality committed to the service
of humanity.
Sr. Cecile used to come to Purnea from Barhara-Raniganj to see the
hostel children as there was no nurse at U.C.Purnea from 1991. She
started vaccination in Raniganj, Purnea and Basantpur Schools. She
extended her services to other schools also when she came to Purnea -
Satmi, Gopalpur and Kisanganj. She was treating sick children as
well as people from outside.
Sister started to visit villages also. In the beginning she
contacted the headman of the village first in order to introduce her
programme of vaccination to pregnant mothers and children below 5.
This was the entry point to enter into the village and establish
relationship with them. She also gave medicines to the sick people
in the village.
After struggling 5 years, she obtained vaccines from the Government
hospital. Now there is no problem of getting medicines from them as
well as their services.
The Project areas under her supervision are the following:
- The School Health Programme.
