The old hostel which was in a dilapidated condition is
demolished and the foundation of the new hostel building was
laid on 14th May. The work is going on and now it is on the
level of casting the ground floor roof. We hope to accommodate
at least 100 students in that building.
Golden Jubilee: Sisters Benigna
Vadasery and Stella Nag celebrated their Golden Jubilee in T.T.C.
Lohardaga on 10th May. Their companion Sister Salomi Toppo was
also present to grace the occasion together with their family
members.
Mayur Vihar Delhi: The Sisters of
Mayur Vihar Delhi celebrated 25th anniversary of its foundation
with a thanksgiving Holy Mass and fellowship meal on May 26th.
Archbishop Vincent M. Consessao of Delhi Archdiocese was the
main celebrant.
Province Days 7th-8th and 14th-15th
June: We had Province days twice. 260 Sisters came to
participate. It was a happy occasion for all to meet, share,
listen to each other plan for future and go ahead with greater
zeal.
 Ursuline Presence in Kolkata: On
14th April Sr. Philomina Tirkey and Sr. Christina Horo were
happily welcomed by Archbishop Lucas Sirkar in the Archdiocese of Kolkata,
West Bengal. They were accompanied by Sr. Roshni and Sr. Esther Pratiti.
We are happy about this new beginning. The blessing of the Archbishop
filled us with hope. It was a joyful event as we have been looking for a
house in Kolkata for transit to Andamans, for the studies of the sisters
and for any apostolate which the Diocese would give. We were invited by
the Capuchin fathers to teach in their Primary School and stay in the same
school building. We are very grateful to them. Sr. Christina Horo has
already started teaching. She is the class teacher of K.G. Both the
sisters are helping in the parish work. They have started visiting houses.
Soon they will start learning Bangla.

Community College,

started the Community College in 2007. One group of girls have completed
the nurse’s aid training and are working in various health centers. This
year in the Community College there are 30 girls. They are post Matric
students. 15 of them will be trained as aid nurses and 15 will get the
pre-primary Teachers’ Training. This is a residential course of 10
months. Three Ursuline sisters are engaged in this collaborative ministry
with the Diocesan Priests, and Daughters of St. Anne to help in the area
of teaching computer, spoken English and to look after the hostel.
Tsunami-Blessing
in Disguise:

The
unnoticed dreadful Earthquake and Tsunami on December 26, 2004 engulfed
many young and old and it brought disaster to the people of Andaman
Nocobar Islands. Even today after a period of three years the survivors
recall back to the tragic experience of this event.
They are aware of their situation, more alert and alive. Now they
know how to face the challenges of life in the face of tsunami or any
other calamities. The world knows how the cruel tsunami drew the attention
of everyone. The world contributed to provide relief to the Tsunami
affected people. Many International, National and local organizations
together with Government put their resources to bring people to the
normal. Ursuline Sisters in Hutbay who were also tsunami victims
associated with Pillar Fathers contributed their share as much as they
could. Several teams of Ursuline Sisters from Ranchi Province werefully engaged in this noble work. In South Andamans at Manarghat not far from
Wimberlygunj a new development has taken place. The Pillar Fathers have
opened an English Medium School and Hostel for Tsunami affected children
of Andaman Nicobar Islands. The Ursuline Sisters of Ranchi Province once
again responded to this call to work together with the Pillar Fathers in
Manarghat. On 2nd July 2007 St. Xavier’s English Medium
School and the Hostel at Manarghat were blessed by Most Rev. Bishop Alex
Dias S.F.X. D.D. of Port Blair in the presence of Father Nazareth
Fernandez, the then Provincial of Pillar Fathers and many others. There
are 30 children in the hostel. The new School, up to class III, has more
than 100 students enrolled. People are very happy about this new
development in the area. This brighter side of the second phase has given
much hope. At present 3
Ursuline Sisters are working in the School and the hostel.
