Ursuline Convent Gumla

The new Convent started on the model of Bethlehem, in poverty.  Mother Norberte, the Superior was a first rate architect and would take charge of everything.  The first community consisted of Mother Norberte.  Mother Wivine and Mother Immaculata.  It was a beautiful day, full of joy, but, unfortunately that same evening, a telegram from Calcutta brought the new of the sudden death of Fr. Soenin S.J. the brother of Mother Norberte.

Msgr. Sevrin wanted a High School for girls in Gumla as soon as possible.  The people too saw the need of it in Barway.  To start with, Tongo co-operated in vacating one of the class rooms for the new class VIII.  Thirty-five students were admitted the very first year.  Later, they managed to put up 3 High School classes also.
