OUR VISION STATEMENT
“Having experienced the
fullness of life in Christ we respond to the prophetic call to build up
a society of justice, love and peace bearing lasting fruit.”
On 13th
January 2003, we the Ursuline Sisters of Ranchi celebrated the Centenary
of the arrival of our four Pioneer Sisters from Belgium in 1903.
Our Society has done
pioneering work in the field of Education, Empowerment, and Welfare of
Tribal girls and women mainly in the States of Jharkhand and Bihar. In
these States we have Elementary, Middle and Secondary Schools for girls.
We have Teachers’ Training Colleges at Lohardaga and Chandrapura in
Jharkhand, where we train Teachers for Elementary and Secondary Schools.
Besides educational institutions, we have hostels for school and college
students and for working women.
Another important area of our
work is Health Care. Many Sisters are engaged in hospitals, dispensaries
and health centers.
We also work in the social sectors in
Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, and the Andaman Nicobar Islands. We
live and work in a culture where girls and women are still to be brought
at par with other people of the society. Poverty and illiteracy are the
root cause of this disparity. A recent phenomenon is that many of the
young Tribal women are lured by the attraction of city life. They
migrate or are trafficked to the cities for jobs as domestic workers.
They become victims of exploitation and injustice.
These are the challenges of today to
which we respond according to the charism and spirit of St. Angela
Merici.
